My son and I visited the Lang Vei Special Forces camp in September '01. I was in the Army stationed at and around Dong Ha through most of '68. I remember in early '68 hearing about the attack at Lang Vie. My unit, the 446th Transportation Company, 26th Support Group was based at Dong Ha and later Quang Tri through all of '68. I remember the 446th T.C. was tasked with moving sizable number of locals ( including animals and household belongings ) as well Special Forces personnel back to Dong Ha for later relocation to Cam Lo. I vividly remember the tough looking Brews and their American advisors. Today the camp is all overgrown but still shows signs of when it was used as a Special Forces camp (i.e. concret bunkers are still visible and in good shape but overgrown with vegitation). Of course the Vietnamese have a big monument just astride Route 9 commemorating the attack with a Soviet T76 tank on a pedistal. Of course, they have there own version of what happened there in Feburary '68. Regards, Joe Vallecorsa (Army '67-'68)
