Marine Quotes
The wonderful love of a beautiful maid,
The love of a staunch true man,
The love of a baby, unafraid,
Have existed since time began.

But the greatest of loves, The quintessence of loves.
even greater than that of a mother,
Is the tender, passionate, infinite love,
of one drunken Marine for another.

"Semper Fidelis" General Louis H. Wilson
Commandant of the Marine Corps
Toast given at 203rd Marine Corps Birthday Ball
Camp Lejueune, N.C. 1978

They (Women Marines) don't have a nickname, and they don't need one. They get their basic training in a Marine atmosphere, at a Marine Post. They inherit the traditions of the Marines. They are Marines.
LtGen Thomas Holcomb, USMC
Commandant of the Marine Corps, 1943

Was there at Cherry Pt when the first 17 Wemon Marines arrived Early 1943.

Re: Marine Quotes

Do you think General Louis H. Wilson would be happy now that the Clubs & Happy Hours are part of the past ???? As for LtGen Holcomb as CMC, his days were before the 109 Generals the Corp apparently needs these days. SO BE IT!!!

And I guess gone are the days of long ago when we had the two beer a day ration when we were humping the hills. I remember the days at Pendleton tent camp 2 (Las Pulgas) when after a long day in IT we would be marched to the outdoor slopchute with the instructions that you will drink NO LESS that three beers before heading for the bunk. Oh for the Old Corps tradition. What a breed they were. God rest you Chesty wherever you are.

Re: Marine Quotes

As I browse this it reminded me of a Chesty quote. A good friend of mine who I will simply refer to as "John" was a Marine officer who served in the latter days of the Pacific War. Following, he went to law school and became a practicing attorney. As a still member of the Marine Corps reserve he was called to duty during the Korean War and went to Korea where he was assigned to the 7th Marine Regiment commanded by Col. Pullar. Upon reporting to him for assignment he was told that he was going to be assigned as a platoon leader in one of the rifle companies. John's reply, "But sir, I'm a JAG officer, not infantry. After a long look, Col Pullar said, "Lieutenant, we are here to kill the sons of bitches, not sue them." (note, John made the Inchon landing, to Chosin Reservoir, and the battle all the way back to Hungnam. After, he continued practicing law until an untimely death by drowning.)
