I am having some trouble wrapping words around this, but occasionally I am reminded of the "fraternity" we all belong to. Since I am over 60 now, I can finally afford an ancient Mercedes. Well, actually it was a 300,000 mile bucket of bolts and rust. So it has taken lots of new parts, wheels, bearings, windows, body panels, fenders, seals, upholstery, etc., etc. I finally topped it off with a BEAUTIFUL paint job, some new chrome, and a discrete little Marine Corps emblem on the new rear window. It looks quite elegant, put-putting down the road, trailing a wisp or two of diesel smoke now and then.
Then I decided to go all out, dug out the old DD-214 and got a Vietnam Veteran license plate with "2-DFCS" on it. I am surprised at the civilians that don't know what that means. Heck, they still don't know what it means after I 'splain it to them. But I have been totally dumbfounded by other reactions. Guys have literally leaped out of their pickup trucks at busy stop lights, run up to the driver's window, snapped to attention, and SALUTED! Good Grief, can you believe that? Maybe there's hope for this country yet...
"Fraternity" doesn't quite capture it, does it. Maybe Semper Fi does.

From One old former Sgt "Hand Salute"
Salute!
Hey Ben,
If I see another Marine Corps sticker of any kind I usually throw up a snappy hand salute. Rank isn't the issue, just respect for another Marine. When they look at me like I have two heads I know that the sticker isn't theirs, or it's daddy's car. As often as not I generate a return to my salute.
Your 2-DFCS tag sound neat!

Ben...my Intrepid has a Purple Heart license plate "VMO-6", and it saved me from getting speeding tickets twice...also, a heating/hot water mechanic installed a new water heater at a house we owned in Virginia Beach, and refused to accept any payment at all when he saw the car parked in the drive way...it's not all bad.
