Harold Lockwood was instrumental in getting the state of New Mexico to install and dedicate a bridge across IH-40 in Laguna, New Mexico. It is dedicated to ALL fallen Marines and servicemen (Army, Navy & Air Force) that were lost during the 77 day siege at the Khe Sanh combat base. He also got the state to place a road side marker honoring that battle. The pics below show this accomplishment. Harold is to be applauded. I go under the bridge twice, going and coming from the Heavy Haulers Gathering held in Laughlin, NV every two years. We will do it again in October of 2019. It is about 40 miles west of Albuquerque on I40 and can't be missed. Harold lives in the red house on the NW side of the bridge, just above it. How many of us can wake up every morning and look out a window over our coffee cup and see something we've accomplished in life. Ooh-Rah! Harold! New Mexico as a state has some very attractive overpasses. Some of them quite special.

The first was sent to me by Harold. The bigger one was captured from Google Earth street view. The third is of Harold standing by the roadside marker.
What is interesting is that the paint scheme is reminiscent of the red laterite sand color predominant at Khe Sanh. Then of course as Dale Riley noted, the "Red and Gold" sign.

In November of 2012 the bridge was dedicated and many groups of veterans attended. Including the Khe Sanh Veterans and the Viet Nam Veterans of America. Also many local Native American vets, many of them Marines.

The CO took us out to New Mexico last April for a couple weeks Mike. We drove around the northern half and my USMC hat got us into all the State Parks/Museums etc for free. It was the most veteran friendly state I’ve been in. We’ll have to do a couple weeks of Alburquerque and south to check this out.

Want to thank everyone for acknowledging the KHE SANH BRIDGE overpass many days I've spent sitting and staring wondering how many of us that made it back are doing. Thank you Mike for the coverage and all are invited to visit the KHE SANH memorial on the "OLD HISTORIC 66 HIGHWAY"
