40 years ago today at approximately 1755, a CH-46 with 6 Marines on board and 9 members of 1st Recon, crashed in the Que Son mountains. There were no survivors. Never forget.

It is sad it happened. Hope it wasn't a mountain crash, but it could have been. Glad they were recovered. S/F.

HMM 264 Rush Act
"Leftwich Jr., William Groom LtCol Passenger CO/1stReconBn 1stMarDiv" (passener, KIA) was one of the best leaders I have ever met. The "grunts" now issue an annual "Leftwich" award in his honor.
This crash has been hashed and re-hashed so many times that it is appropriate to just honor those we lost and leave the rest in the history books.

Ray, I can see how much Lt.Col. Leftwich was loved by his Recon. Its not often you see a CO of Recon leading his troops in a an insert, or extraction. They were fortunate to have him as their Comanding Officer. In crashes as such, there is just not much left to put pieces back together. S/F, Col.
