My family just returned from the Oceana (NAS at Virginia Beach, VA) Air Show.
I have seen the Blue Angels at least 30 times from Pensacola to Honolulu flying F11's to F4's to A4's to now the F/A 18. Today's Blue Angles show was lower, higher, faster, longer, and simply more thrilling than any other. At one point a plane made a low pass down the runway upside down with the gear extended. The flight of two was so close that I thought it was a single plane until the wingman broke off. On a single plane high speed low pass, if the gear had been extended I believe it would have touched the runway. Clearly, these pilots were at the top of their game.
Finally, the crowd was huge. I have never seen so many people there and I have probably been to this show twenty times. It was a priviledge to be there.

Angels are the best!
During the annual Fort Lauderdale air show, my Uncle and I were dining in Palm Beach, very near the water, and could see them form up after various fly-bys, etc. It was clear that as good as the Air Force Thunderbirds are, the Blue Angels are even better! When my Aunt asked how you could tell one from the other from the distance we were from the show, I replied, "besides the obvious difference in a/c type, the Navy/Marine pilots were closer, crisper and a more cohesive unit". We could see that from afar, it's more obvious when up close.
I'm not denigrading the Air Force guys they're good, but they're not "that" good! I really like the show with the A-4's like they used when they came to Memphis when we were there in '66. The "welded wing" was JUST THAT!!
