Got the below message from some old cronies, Dale Gibson and Leroy Barcelon.
The Marines are using Viet Nam era Helicopters (shitters). The Army Chinook is always
billed on the Military Channel as the helicopter to go to, to lift the heavy goods. It all
started in late 1966 when the first CH-53s arrived in Viet Nam. Westmorland hated the
CH-53. The first four, HMH-463 helicopters in 5 months in 1967 lifted more war material
than all the Army's Chinooks. It was ugly for the Army. Its not bragging if you can do it.
well done.

Team,
Last week a Chinook had a hard landing in Northern Afghanistan. A TRAP
Team went out to recover the aircraft. Here are a couple of photos of
HMH-361 bringing the Chinook home.

Gotta LOVE those photos!!
Re: CH53 ops A-stan ......
Mike, thank you for the posts. The army is on its way out so to say, or they wouldn't be trying to cut others down. I've always felt the 53 was much better than the 'chinuk' any day of the week. Spelled on purpose. We are showing them with Vietnam era Birds, and doing the job very well. Thats just like another Bird I know of that STILL has it. The only one I've ever heard of to do a Buttonhook, but people can say it needs to be retired all day long, but in one ear, out the other. Retire the B-52 then. They won't even consider it. I knew I should have gone to work at boeing on the 22 program, but passed it up. All that money in the pocket would have sent me to hell. Glad to see the 53's still have it, like several others do. Keep us updated on the 53's doing the job. Thanks in advance. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.
