For all good Marines who participate or monitor this forum, I have a mission for you.
I know of a decorated WWII veteran who will be turning 88 years young next week (March 18). He was a member of the Army’s 9th Division and participated in battles throughout France and Germany after the Normandy invasion. He was awarded the Bronze Star for action above and beyond the call of duty.
This WWII hero resides in a nursing home, and most of his family lives in other parts of the country. The few that are here are more focused on his immediate health needs and don’t acknowledge, much less honor his military service and sacrifice. For his birthday, he would like to be acknowledged.
So I thought this might be a good mission for Marines everywhere. The mission is simple, send this American hero a birthday greeting, thanking him for his service and wishing him many happy returns. He does not have electronic media, so any greetings will have to be the old fashioned way – U.S. Mail.
Wouldn’t it be great if he received greetings from young and old Marines from all over the U.S., and even other parts of the world? It would certainly help honor a gentleman who fought for our freedom as he enters the twilight of his life.
I thank you all for your help and participation.

Re: Call To Action....
For those of you have participated in this mission, some feedback....
The old warrior is getting cards from different people and different places which have him completely thrilled. He says he doesn't know how he knows all these people sending greetings, but it makes him want to go fight another war.
His family says that when he talks about the cards and greetings, his face lights up like the "Big Ball" at Times Square on New Years eve.
It gives me a good feeling to know that the Marines have helped an old war veteran by performing such a trivial task.
To all of you who have participated, a heart felt Thank You from the family. For anyone who has good intentions but may have forgotten, it's never too late.
Once again, "The Marines have landed, and the situation is well in hand."

Re: Call To Action....
Merlin, sent a card out today to Mr. Sullivan. I told him the truth, that he and guys like him are an inspiration to me and others to carry on the proud tradition of being a member of the armed forces of this great USA. Thank you for calling us in and for your service. semper fi Tom Foster HML-167
Re: Call To Action....
Tom, I read on military.com few days ago that when the gov. shuts down next time, no military will be paid like they did the last time it was shut down. Bills still need to be paid, and gas still needs to be bought to get on base, (the ones that live off), and food needs to be bought. The democrats are going to do it this time I do believe. What are the active members going to do when it happens? How proud will they be then? Think about it. Can you go without being paid on active duty? Semper Fi, and READY-APP.
