March 30th~annually~!

{{{*ABOUT TIME*}}} When I left Danang in Oct of 69, I went to Okinawa, then in Mar of 70 I took a plane to Travis AFB, there I was told to wear civilian clothes.
There were hundreds of people outside the gate, in protest of the 'conflict'. I drove my car right passed them without a incident. BUT: With 4 Sons & a wife in the car, had a military decal on windshield & bumper stickers, headed to South Carolina, every stop we made, resturants, motels, etc: we were boo'd, spit upon & made to feel scared that we would loose our lives... Semper Fidelis~!

I am 15 years younger than T, but I do remember that of the very few things he recounted to me about his experiences in country and after, one very vividly.

He disembarked in SF to a three piece brass band and a crowd spitting and booing at him. And they were supposed to be "hippies", the "flower" children.

I am ashamed for them, but I had the privilege of being the child of a WWII veteran, albeit one born a bit after his return, and I would have known better if I'd been of that generation. I do know that it was hard to be among the "hippies" if you actually had anything logical to interject into their thought processes...you'd be messing with their high.

I might disagree with the processes that result in sending people into war, but I could not ever dishonor those that do what they consider their honorable duty, ever. It would defy logic to do so and one would have to be very brain-washed and/or high to do it.

march 30th annually

I myself feel mr. 'I'll be back' can blow smoke in someone elses back pocket. I came home on extention leave for choppers, and almost was beat to death by college students, and spent my leave in serious recovery. I was GLAD to get back to Vietnam. They can lay their guilt trip on someone else, but not on me. After 43 years, for me; just a little too late. Semper Fi, Ready-App.

Bull Dog I'm with you for That was a very likeness to what happen to me and some others in LA international. It WAS March of 70 and they took us in the back way, gave us our tickets and payol told us to go straight to our gate
and not mess around. Some was told that a Marine had been confronted just a week or so ago and some one had ask him if he was coming from VietNam? When He said Yes the person pull a Gun and Shot him . What a return to the WORLD!:confused:

I came home on crutches and a very young just out of boot camp sailer ,despite my embaressed protests carried my sea bag through L A X !on exiting the terminal to hail a cab i had an R C coke bottle thrown at me an was called a baby killer ! by a car with three teenage hippy wantobes. with out thinking i threw one of my crutches at the passenger side of the car ( an old green riviaira i think ) they sped forward and lighty rear end a car in front of them stopped for ared light as i caught up to them a L A police officer having witness the exchange took matters into hand. LOL. my crutch was returned and i waived bye bye to the hippies from my cab about ten minutes later ( they were still in the postion) it seems the officer was a former NAM Marine. LOL . semper fi ! Birthday's What

First want to thank all who sent me Happy Wishes! It makes one feel a littlebit younger. It was sosososo.........ended up watching the youngest grandson/ We played at lego's and even at 1 he does pretty good. Found that I don't get up and down from the floor so easy. Then 2 more of them came for a while and they are full of it. We some times have some great moments togather just those 2 and papa. So with that I'm not sure about staying young ,but can assure you I will always be a MARINE.even when the wife blames them for some of my traites . You ALL know what I mean!:)

march 30th annually

I failed to say in my 'march 30th annually' post that the college students were the 1st string of the schools football team. I got 4 of them pretty good, before they got me dang good. I looked like the looser of a Heavy Weight Fight, and felt it too. Guess I was.

Permit me a word

ALLOW all these people their long over due confrontations with a dark
period in American history.
They have their guilt to face with the way that we 'Nam vets & the Korean
War vets were treated on our return to the "World."
Perhaps it will serve to fortify our brotherhood's resolve that never again
will our returning boys be treated in such a manner.
NEVER AGAIN !!!

my dad told me how he and and his friends were treatedwhen he returned home from Korea ! not good at all ! he said people said they didn't win the war. I say they did !!! they got north korea out of south koreaand kicked the kimchee out of about a million red chinese to boot ! we did the same in nam but we (our gov. ) didn't garrison that county with the same resolve !to steal a phase from the hippies WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN ? and another from the art of war NEVER GIVE UP !!! SEMPER FI TO ALL MARINES AND A SPECIAL YELL TO ALL MY 165 BROTHERS !:)
