See noithing on here about today being the famous "Day that lives in infamy". Remember Pearl Harbor!! The news here is that 500 survivors of that attack 7 Dec 1941 attended the ceremony at the Arizona Memorial & procalimed it as their last return since they are to old or may not be here for the next year celebration. I always remember that day since I was on duty at the Associated Press News room in Wash. DC as a Copy Boy. I recieved the news on our Teletypes which I attended & could not believe it was real. I went to HQMC 8th & I and signed up at the tender age of 17. It was the beginning of a life time career which I would not change for anything. I finally retired in 1987 from my 14 years as Senior Rep at MAG-36. This at the 1st MAW Hq at Okinawa. Had served at Alameda for 3 years with the CH53 Reserve unit and 21 years Marine active service 1942-1963. Now that I am middle age guess they wont call me back again:D (I am ready) SF PM

Pearl Harbor Day

Paul,
Thanks for noting this on the forums! I'm embarrassed we didn't already do it. Had to come from a WW II veteran!

New Memorial

Paul,

I was reading an article about the Arizona Memorial and how the structure is in pretty bad shape - apparently, they are trying to raise funds to build a new more elaborate memorial - what do you hear?

The Arizona Memorial

The Arizona Memorial is in fine shape. The Arizona Visitor Center/Museum are the facilities that are in disrepair/sinking state. Yes, there is a movement afoot to build a new Visitor Center/Museum once the land can be stabilized. (The original Visitor Center/Museum was build on reclaimed land and is sinking into the muck at an unacceptable rate.)
