MARINE CORPS AIR STATION FUTENMA, Okinawa (Sep 28, 2007) -- Sgt. Maj. Jackie R. Robertson will assume duties as sergeant major of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262, replacing Sgt. Maj. Leon S. Thornton during a ceremony today.
Thornton, who joined the squadron in April 2004, will move on to serve as sergeant major for Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 in Pensacola, Fla.
Robertson comes to HMM-262 from Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 18 where he served as the unit sergeant major.
Robertson enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1981 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Calif.
After completing the Heavy Equipment Operator School at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., in 1982, Robertson reported for duty with 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Robertson's other assignments include serving as an engineer chief with 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit's Marine Service Support Group-11 in Camp Pendleton, Calif., and later as a drill instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Calif.
In 2003, Robertson reported to Headquarters and Service Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, at Camp Pendleton, Calif. From there, he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Robertson's awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
