MARINE CORPS AIR STATION FUTENMA, Okinawa (January 25, 2008) -- Sgt. Maj. Karl Villalino passed his duties as sergeant major for Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, Marine Aircraft Group 24, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, to Sgt. Maj. Tamara Fode during a post and relief ceremony Jan. 23 at the squadron's hangar on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma.
Villalino, who served with HMH-463 since February 2005, is scheduled to assume duties as sergeant major of Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing on Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.
Fode came to HMH-463 after serving as the sergeant major for 1st Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.
She came into the Marine Corps in April 1988. In March 1992, Fode attended drill instructor school at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. After completion, she served as a drill instructor and was promoted to sergeant in December 1992.
She left Parris Island in 1994 but returned in March 1998 to serve as a senior drill instructor and a series gunnery sergeant. In July 1999, she was meritoriously promoted to gunnery sergeant.
From April to August 2002, she served as a member of the Marine Corps Rifle Team. In April 2003, she earned her Distinguished Marksman Badge.
In December 2004, Fode reported to 1st Supply Battalion, Combat Service Support Group 15, 1st Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. She deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2006 to August 2006.
She was promoted to sergeant major in June 2007.
Upon return from Iraq, she was assigned as the sergeant major for 1st Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15, 1st Marine Logistics Group, until January 2007.
Fode then reported to her most recent duty as the sergeant major of 1st Supply Battalion.
