The Defense Department is kicking off a program to design, build and demonstrate prototypes of the Joint and Allied Threat Awareness System (JATAS) to protect U.S. Navy and Marine Corps helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft from dumb and smart weapons.

Sounds great! Probably wouldn't have been to good for when we always used to get fire from friendly areas when we flew over at night.

Helicopter Protection....

Hated to take fire from any place. BUT, on the return flight, we'd always fly back over the same ville, and give a bunch of it back. They learned to not fire at me after a few times.

"FRIENDLY" FIRE...sorta

We used to take sniper fire from a "friendly" ville just to the east of the
runway at Phu Bai...,until an "accident discharge" occurred while clearing
the starboard '50 on approach.
Either the "friendly" was terminated..,or he learned how to read & interpret
side markings.
Sure is a passle of paper work involved & slight deviations from the truth,
but the rewards justified the means.

TAKE NO PRISONERS.,SHOW NO MERCY.

DEATH SMILES AT EVERYONE...,MARINES SMILE BACK...
