"I was the crew chief who was the first combat casualty. It was a flight of three on a resupply NW of Danang on Oct. 4, 1962. I got hit standing in the door with an M-14 attempting to draw fire away from the pilot and vital areas. It was HMM-163, and we had our second loss on Oct 6..."
