I AM LOOKING FOR ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE RESCUE-EXTRACTION OF A RECON TEAM " MARSHAL HALL ",ABOUT SEVEN MILES SOUTH OF PHU BAI,ON DEC 19,1967. I WAS GUNNER ON SECOND OF TWO UH1E'S. I BELIEVE THE CO WAS FLYING LEAD.
THE TEAM HAD 1 KIA AND 2 WOUNDED AND WAS UNABLE TO MOVE TO A RESCUE POSITION. AFTER BEING INSERTED NEAR THE TREELINE,MY CREW CHIEF AND I CARRIED 1 WOUNDED TO THE AIRCRAFT, WHERE THE PILOT INFORMED US IT WAS NECESSARY TO TAKE OFF BECAUSE OF LOW FUEL.
I DON'T RECALL IF THE CREWCHIEF STAYED BUT I DID AND ASSISTED IN HELPING THE TEAM MOVE TO THE TOP OF THE HILL WHERE WE WERE PICKED UP BY A '46. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE NAMES OF ALL THE CREWS AND PILOTS AND THE RECON TEAM, I NEVER FOUND OUT HOW THE WOUNDED MADE OUT. ANY ONE WITH INFO PLEASE RESPOND.

Friday January 19, 1967 Oh yeah. I remember...
Editing my prior post.
To quote Steve Martin. "Well Exccccccccccccccuse me! I just got off the phone from my old X.O. Col Colbert who reminded me that I was off an entire year. My experience was on January 19th 1968 NOT '67. My bad! Sorry bout that.
To much 150 proof cold medicine maybe?
I wish that MAG 16 would find the missing after action and command chronology's for HMM 164 for late 1967 and early to mid 1968 so we could enhance our fading memories and chronicle what it was we did there. Else wise, it may have only been a dream.

Re: Vmo-3 Recon Team Rescue & Extraction
Mike,
Okay, there you are, now I remember. You are now stating the date was Sept 19, 1967, originally Dec of 67 I too had a mind phase and should have relied on my notes at the time and not circumstances that occurred later. I sent you the links to VMO 3 for those dates. The AA's do exist but are in inverse order???
I can help you once you make clear the exact date. So far you had the group wrong. In 1967, VMO-3 was in MAG 16, later while still at Phu Bai everyone was in MAG 36. You need to tell me from where you launched and picked up the recon team. At 3d Mar Div across the hi-way or somewhere else. Probably in '67 it as Force Recon of 3rd Mar Div. Phu Bai. In my case the 1st Bttn was sent from Danang to support Force Recon just prior to Tet of '68. Below is the link to the AA reports for the new time period you asked about. Sept 19, 1967.
On Sept 19 there is a emergency extract at YD 479 256. The pilots were Rey__?? and Graff A.D.
Non hacks were Tansley,WA and LOVE,E.V. The Crew Chief's were unreadable to me but the Gunner on one of two birds launched was a Yanley.
The Comand Chron for Sept 19th has this entry:
19. Sept 1967: Three armed escort missions vlere flO1.ffi in support of IDiJM-362
during medevacs operations. Four armed escort missions '.rere flom in support
of recon inserts and extracts. TWo a~in .liaison missions, one photo recon
mission, eight visual recon missions and four VIP missions carrying HGen
HOCKMUTH and BGen METZGER were flom in the PhU OOi operational area. In 11lB.e
Dong Ha operational area seventeen armed escort missions ere flovlll. Seven
were in support of resupply operations, six in support of medevac operations
and four in support of recon extracts. All were in the operation Kingfisher
area.
I'll try the Dec. Date just to be sure.
