Lang Vei rescue mission 7 February 1968

SGM Thompson,

My name is Dale Lee. I was with the 5th SFG 1st SF and was involved in the rescue of our men at the old Lang Vei site. After that I was at Khe Sanh FOB-3 during the siege. Later I was sent to MACVCORDS to train RFPF Vietnamese. After that I served some time on a PRU Team with Project Phoenix. The reason I am sending this reply is I too am looking for information, (not about pilots, and I wish I could help you there), but I can only remember four other people I went with during the rescue of Lang Vei. My buddy Bill "Willie" Cripps was one of them. Bill killed himself in 1983 taking any other names he would have known to his grave. Our Da Nang C Team CSM Harmon Hodges was with us and so was a guy I only remember as "Frenchy". Our C Team Medical Doctor was also on the helicopter with us. His name was Dr. Allen Hunter. I have recently spoken with him, but he couldn't shed light on any other names. For years I buried Lang Vei and Khe Sanh deep inside me, but in my older years it haunts me dearly as I know it must for you too. I cannot imagine what you went through being a POW. In my mind, although we have never met, I know you are tough and I thank you for your service to our country. It is men like you who help make this a great nation. I am proud to know that I served in SF with men such as yourself. It humbles me! Hopefully you will be able to shed some light for me on some of the others that you may know of. Of course, if you don't that is o.k. too. My military records from Vietnam are not complete. I have two buddies still alive that know I was at Khe Sanh with them and that I volunteered around 1600 hrs. Feb. 7th, 1968 and went with Major George Quomo to the rescue. I am still hoping to find someone that remembers me. I need to have some pieces placed into my memory before I pass on. Recently I have had cancer surgeries and probably won't see many more years. Any help will certainly and greatly be appreciated. May this message find you in good health and that in your quest for chopper pilots, you find some of those names. Those pilots were also very brave.

Sincerely,

Dale "Doc" Lee

P.S. Joel Johnson (lives in Florida) and Leslie Moreland (MIA) were also my friends who were involved with A-101.

What's up Doc?

Doc, How can I get in contact with you? Call me at (360) 456-3907 or E-mail me at amazingdt@aol.com. I have a zillion questions. I also want you attend a reunion I'm setting up with the remaining Lang Vei survivors, Air Force FACs, Navy skyraider pilots and SF rescue force. So far you're the only SF gut I've been able to find...and I cant contact you. Answer up.

Dennis
