How can four years have such an impact on the rest of your life? The bonds made in the Marine Corps lasts a lifetime. The Brotherhood transcends all aspects of what makes America great. With the latest air crews - we welcome females - WM's - into the family of those that have flown into harm's way.
No matter the conflict - the responsibility is the same -- support the troops.

You did the Book that brings your story to Life,and boy was that needed. Now if only others would get to work on how WAR and alike look though their eyes. Why! we could have a whole series for HISTORY CLASSES.

JJ, in getting my Bachelor Degree some years ago,'93, Vietnam was an absolute NO-NO subject. That was especially true in History classes. Every one! I tried, but had de-merit, after de-merit. The protesters are still out there teaching, and its still a closed subject. I'll write my book one day, but it will be awhile. Maybe not to long though. I do not believe in tenure for teachers, or union workers. Just the way I feel. Have good ones. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

Sure right about that ACE, they are still out there. Now your sounding like me when you say I'll be writing our story. Time is getting shorter Day by Day. Guess any of us that have something to share should be getting on with it. For ME that's BIG TIME TO START. Have a Great Day

Doug Morrison (Capt. HMM-262 HAC 1968) have written about 10 or so chapters in our RVN book. Need to put 'em together I suppose.....

Joe I think the 70's sure does sound inviting! I have a Friend Down around Indian Rocks
or something like that. He and the Wife went down for about 5 weeks,and so what does he do! Calls me the other night to see If I'm in Jail. HaHA Seems someone call and told Him that some Guy was in front of their House and went and clear the Drive way. Guess they thought this Guy was going to clear the Drive ,Before we Rob the House .
I told Him it was nice to check on me,but why did it take 2days before He call!:rolleyes:

Over the weekend I read Sam Beamon's book "Flying Death" The Vietnam Experience.
Very well written and an easy read...I could not put it down. It was like watching a movie...sitting comfortable on my recliner the words just keep you tuned in to this heartfelt story of an 18yr old boy who not only became a Marine, but became a man in a short period of time. I thank his mom for the prayers that brought him home safely and give him my condolences for all the fellow marines, especially those who were his good friends, who lost their lives fighting for our country. May they rest in peace.
Upon reading the last words...I was speechless...a trait that is not typical for me. The only thought that came to mind was "AMEN" I really needed time to absorb all of its content. This story, although it is titled the Vietnam Experience, speaks of much more than being in combat, it speaks of the bond between the young men who served together, the daily support for not only our country but for each other, and not only during, but before and after their time served, an experienced shared that each and everyone of them will forever remember and hold dear in their heart. Life is here today, yet not promised for tomorrow...a fact that this story will help all to believe. It also shows the importance in the stuggle for equality...we all can learn from these young men who worked together on a daily basis just to survive, they were there for each other...yet they returned home to a country that even decades later still can't figure out that "one hand washes the other" no matter who you are or where you come from.
All I can say is that I personally learned a lot from reading this book. It really makes you think about the things in your life that you stress out on and ask yourself why? it could be worse...it could be Vietnam? I have an increased respect for the men and women in our armed forces both past and present and I thank my friend Sam Beamon for taking the time and effort in sharing this experience and hope that all who read its heartfelt, touching story will share it with their friends and family and so on and so forth...so the world will never forget those who serve to make our home a better place.

Foe those that have not read this story:
This is not just my story but our story of what it is like to be a crew chief. Take a walk in my shoes and see what it is like to be flying in combat.
No matter the conflict the chopper has one mission and that is to support the troops. Too many died trying to complete this mission.
There are a lot of people that would like to forget about this time in our history - As an American, Marine and Vietnam Veteran - I will never forget.

I know that I won't get rich but my story is our story. I have gotten great reviews and it is a story that has not been told before. I know that I am preaching to the choir, but everyone can relate.
