If anybody has any idea what this piece of hardware may be from, or what the stamped numbers may indicate, contact Geoffrey at e-mail below.

I would like to know if this piece could be traced to a chopper,so i could learn of its history, maybe get this to some museum?? Steve Jones and I went over to Vietnam with all 4 trips, he has lived there 3 years, told me this was part of the chopper. He flew choppers with 2nd 17 cav '69 he was shot down on ho chi minh trail on the far side of hamburger hill. He was with me when I found it. I was in unauthorised area on the old khe sanh base. Pop a smoke guys know of my 2003 trip looking for an MIA jan 21 68 khe sanh town ku buc hill area jtf gave up in 1999. I found 3 sets of remains one with boot soles awaiting dna.....

This piece is 12 1/2 long by 5 1/2 wide, green on one side, fibreglass date stamped on it,something 22 1966; another stamped numbers 65201 06001 148; someone wrote with pencil 283

Pn # 65201-06001-148

Almost sure this is a CH53 PN #. Will try to identify if can locate an IPB or My friend at Sikorsky. The other number may be a Station location. SF PM

Pn#65201-06001-148

Recived verification that this is a CH53 Part the drawing is of frame 544.5 which is 15 1/2 inches forward of the hinge point for the rear ramp since the staion encludes top to bottom it would also include aft of the MGB at the MGB oil cooler. Being fiberglass the oil cooler would likely be the area. Info From my Sikorsky Friend currently assigned to the CH53 facility at Cherry Pt N.C. The dash number 148 was not listed . Hope this will help, it is definitely a CH53 PN. SF PM

Identification of PN 65201-06001

Further search on PN 65201-06001 using the photo dimensions & attaching holes show that it was from the CH53A orD at Sta 689 thru 706 outboard the ramp door hinge aft of the ramp wind deflector. Thanks to Don Blossom Sikorsky Rep Cherry Pt NC. The Dash # probably should be -142. SF PM

Amazing Marine

Wally,
You said it! I'm not sure that anything would surprise me with Paul. I suspect he could do the same thing with an H-34, an H-19 or an old SBD Devastator. What a career!

Joe you are just to young ,the TBD Devastator was a Torpedo plane used by the Navy before they received the TBF Avenger. The SBD was called a Dauntless, got to keep you young guys stright. SF

Avenger!

Right you are Walt!! I wasn't thinking clearly when I was recalling Paul's aircraft history in my feeble brain!! I have learned though that when anyone argues with you about aircraft that they had better back up and regroup! They are more than likely WRONG!! You're the only Line Chief I ever knew or heard about that corrected Crew Chiefs on their aircraft side number, 35 years after the fact!! Except maybe for Paul Moore! LOL!
Thanks for keeping me straight, top!
😀

Posting these photos for Paul.
==
These 4 Torpedo/Dive Bombers were the series used by USMC in training & the Pacific. Starting with the SBD since the Marine Corps only had one TBD. That was several dash numbers of the SBD Dauntless, The SB2A-4 Brewster was built for the Dutch but never was delivered since they were overran by the Germans. USMC used them for training at Cherry Pt. The TBF/TBM was the primary Dive Bomber after the SBD.

The bottom photo is the Curtiss SB2C-4 Helldiver flying over Yap Island. MAG-45 took over our Mission there in the Caroline Islands when we departed for the Okinawa operation (VMTB-232).

"unidentified part"

Wally ..... et al

I'll bet that this part (as described by Paul) came from the ramp area of
YH-21.

That 53 took a rocket to the pylon hinge area during the seige.

I'm pretty familiar with this wreck as Capt Riley is the reason I'm still here.

Check out the Vietnam KIA Incidents in the below reference for details.

I'd be willing to bet good money that this is part of YH-21.

I have attached a pic of the YH-21 wreck at Khe Sanh.
