Wally

Anyway you see fit, maybe you could put this on the website.

Cpl Clyde Edgell, metalsmith, possibly HMM-363, Marble Mtn 1967.
Clyde Edgell, formerly of HMM-162 New River, and Scott Cochran,
were both seriously wounded in a rocket attack.
Neither were heard from again. ( TBI )

MSGT Neal "Rocky" Graziano and I have searched for years to find
Clyde.

I found him last night, but few details of his passing in 1970.

Google: Clyde L. Edgell Fort Snelling National Cemetery MN

There is a picture of his headstone that pretty much confirms it is him.

I have E-mails out to contact next of kin.

Will notify if any info comes in.

Semper Fi!

Clyde Edgell and Scott Cochran

Frenchy, there has to be records from where they were taken for medical treatment. It seems you found Cpl. Clyde Edgell. Great. The med stations, with injuries that bad of a Marine, would have a record of his treatment even after all these years. They would be in storage in HQMC, but I would say they do exist. I would also say the Family would be the only ones that could have access of them, unless a board of inquiry was started. The injuries were bad, and I do not believe they would just get up and walk away. If Scott Cochran did get away from the Hospital, there would be records of where he was released to, or went. If not he would have blended in with the local population, but should have been found by,'73, or '75 one way or the other. I do hope the story of what happened to these Marines can be found. S/F.

Happens all the time...

If this is the same rocket attack that I'm thinking of.,it may well be that he was evac'd to the hospital ship at the same time that I was. No mention of it in my medical records.
During the course of research done for others.,I've found that records ret'd. CONUS were poorly handled a great deal of the time.,lost., missing.,or miss routed to another unit's permanent files HQMC.

Mike, Hopefully they do a better job now. My son is a Cpl. USMCR, and all of his records are on a chip in his ID card. They are also on a computer hard drive somewhere.

missing records

Lurch, as I was in AIT before going over for TET, we had a Cpl. admin clerk. The entire bunch of us had to re take all of our shots 3 times because this bum kept loosing our shot records. I saw him while coming back to the World on extention leave, he was still there at recieving, and was still a Cpl. I laughed at him. Thats why so many records were lost as well, the clerks should have been something that didn't take any brains to do. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

RECORDs

Like someone said( someone who'd know) Most of us didn't go to Nam for Metals but with that being said It would of been nice to have the records right. Then with us in 262 we move a couple big moves in less then 6mos. We also so had 3 or more change of commands! So with all this we sure wasn't getting the write ups as some others that was set up in one place.

RECORDs

Thats for sure JJ. 262, and 265, and a few others were on the short end of the stick it seems. We didn't have important Members, or have Generals running around all the time like some did. That would make a difference. Due to records, I was short of a Bronze, and a Combat Action while I was attached to the Army. The Convoy CO, and Driver got them, but me, the Marine Gunner didn't. Don't mean nothin. Just glad I came back alive in spite of the downs I had. It was a rough 6-7 month fight, but I did walk out of it without help. They can have everything else, but I have my Flight record, and I'll keep my Wings, and Combat Air Medals, and Combat Purple Heart. They can go swimming. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

....,I think.(???) At least there's not all the hard-copy paperwork being shuffled about.
There have been a number of times when I've been into somebody's sqdrn. records & found AAR's & occasional Comm.Chron.'s pop up from a different unit. Sometimes a couple of pages.,sometimes several.
HMM 165 is a prime example of mis-routing. Try to find their AAR's for '66 & '67. Those reports had to filled out & filed. They went SOMEWHERE !!! Command Chronology made it thru ok. What a 'clambake'.

shorted on medals!

I heard that Lurch. When it comes from someone you worked with, it means a lot. I wasn't there for the medals either, but when they say your going to get something, and worm out of it, that is spitting words to me. All I cared to get was what I had earned. You know, I really thought we would only get one Combat Air Medal for Flying. Thought that the whole time. Then at the Hospital when I could finally get up, I was sent to a room, and a sgt threw mine on the desk, and said thats all, you can leave. It was Just 1 Air Medal, and some others. Then when I got home 4-5 months later, the other 20 caught up with me. I was wrong for sure. 21 is good enough for me for 3 months of Flying. Some I've heard it took 2 tours to get that. But, you get what you get. Most of my Pilots have told me at different times, they didn't care to Fly with a bunch of the Crew Chiefs, but just me and 2 others. Thats a compliment for sure too. Our CO, when he would Fly, and I had a Bird, he would Fly with me mostly. Have good ones. I'm glad you were able to find the MGYSgt. Glad both of you made it. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

Sure got that right yet we all know fair isn't always fair, and I have to remember we all was able to come back home. Even when I did want to go back, they wouldn't let me.

always good

I agree jj. I enjoyed the cool ones we had with our Pilots for sure, after a very long day of Flying. I stored a 6 pack in my igloo. Black lable mostly. We had a shake down in the Squadron one night after a cc trainee hand walked the radio antennas. All the boose was thrown over the side of the ship, but mine. I was asked, 'John, was that yours? I said NO SIR'. Was then told to button up. I did. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

JJ's right

I too am still hunting an Army med-evac I had on 14 july,'69 on the cau-vet river. My down wash almost sank a few boats. He knew me from when I was at Chu-lai, from the 23rd Americal Div. He was just to blown away to recognize. Every time I'd go back to the ramp to check on him, he would grab my ankle, try to talk to me, and not let go. Had to pry his hand off the left ankle, and I'd run up to the HAC, and tell him,' were loosing him, lets go, she will do more'. We flew 15 ft off the water to get thicker air. We were cleared to fly across the Danang runway, and as we did the climb to 800 getting into the Marble pattern, for the emergency Auto to the med, I think it was Delta Med, just on the north west end of Marble. Believe thats when we lost him, I believe. A bouncing betty had exploded right in his chest and all. We had to get a Priest, and it was a mess from the start. I wanted to go straight to get him, but had to do a triangle to get the Priest, and then go get him, and then back to marble. They could have revived him, but never heard. The fact he read my name tag he knew me, as I was the only one he would grab, or have anything to do with. He was the worse I had seen. I just believe they saved him, as they did me. I was given not a chance in hell, so maybe they did the same thing for him. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.
