On Feb 7, 1969, a Purple Fox helicopter was shot down in Vietnam. We lost Gary Young (my father), Ernie Bartolina, Russ Moke, Chuck Miller, Rodney Shank (Ronnie Gordon) and Rip Tyrrell.
On Feb 7, 2007, a Purple Fox helicopter was shot down in Iraq. We lost Jen Harris, Jared Landaker, Travis Pfister, Tommy Saba, James Tijerina, Manny Ruiz and Gilbert Minjares.
The Iraq helicopter was carrying an anniversary memorial flag for my father. Forever linked. Truth is truly stranger than fiction.

Steph
Very nice tribute for both crews. Pretty moving stuff there.
Re: February 7th
Well done! This is an outstanding video tribute to our fallen Marine and Navy brothers and sisters. They made the ultimate sacrifice trying to save others in combat. The coincidence of these two separate losses in conflicts, decades apart, reinforces my faith in our Corps, and the knowledge that our younger generation have continued the honored tradition of marine helicopters always being there to fly our dead and wounded comrades out of harms way . Bravo Zulu to the Purple Foxes and to it's men and women of all generations.. Semper Fi Mike Sullivan
Re: February 7th
Sorry Steph, I attended the funeral for Tom Saba who was flying on the Purple Fox 46, but was from HMM-262. I was with HMM-262 in Vietnam and went to the funeral to honor our Brother representing the HMM-262 Vietnam Marines. I will post this on facebook so Tom's parents and family can see it, thanks!
