Obituary
Edward "Ed" Briscoe, 72 of Amarillo passed away Friday, March 30, 2012. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Rev. Alan Burkhalter of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Stinnett Cemetery in Stinnett by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. Ed was born January 18, 1940 in Prichett, ado to Herbert and Edith Briscoe. He joined the United States Marine Corp at the age of 17. He served two tours in Vietnam and retired after 21 years with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. After his service to his country, Ed settled in Amarillo and went to work for Bell Helicopter. While at Bell, Ed met Vera White and a couple of years later, the two were married. Ed and Vera spent over 28 wonderful and memory filled years together. After leaving Bell Helicopter, he went to work for Potter County Sheriff's Department where he gave over 17 years of service, retiring in 2000 as a Deputy Sheriff with the rank of Sergeant. Ed was a very proud American, and went to his Military Reunions every two years. He and Vera both would go to the reunions together, which took them to many different cities across the U.S. Ed was very much looking forward to this year's reunion in July down in Florida. Ed also loved to travel with Vera in their motor home. They would visit ado and also Florida, where they could spend time with their children. Most of all, Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved spending time with his family, especially each and every one of his grandbabies. They all loved their "PaPa". Ed will truly be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ted Briscoe and Lewis Briscoe; sister, Treva Jones and also by 2 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Ed is survived by his wife of 28 years, Vera Briscoe of the home; sons, Scott Briscoe of Tampa, Florida and Jackie Hooper of Cleburne; daughters, Stephanie Briscoe of Largo, Florida, Sandy Slentz of Marble Falls and Donna Hudnall of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Alice Nivens and Freda McMurry both of Amarillo and Ruth Ray of Williston, North Dakota; sister-in-law, Wanda Briscoe; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; also by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. The family suggest memorials be sent to BSA Hospice.
