HMM-163. On Mar 11, 1966 I, my co-pilot, Lt Joe Weiss, and crew chief and gunner, made an H-34 hoist rescue under difficult conditions, of an Air Force A-1 Skyrader pilot, Major "Buzz" Blaylock. I would like to contact my crewmen and wingman crewmen, and any other HMM-163 Marines who might have photos of our return to Phu Bai and subsequent fly-by. My kids want photos.

Dear Folks, This is in response to a note that Norm Urban left on the site. Sorry Norm I don't have any pictures. I remember the ordeal. John Butler may be able to help as he has several addresses of former squadron mates. All the Best Norm. It was great to have served with you.
Sincerely, Joe Weiss papasmoke09@hotmail.com
Sorry Norm. Like Joe Weiss, I remember the incident, but have no pictures. I was in the 1st Div TOC, ARVN in Hue when it happened and listened to the radio action. Memory seems to recall that the hoist was too short to reach the pilot on the side of the mountain, but you rigged a rope on the hoist and pulled him out that way. I arrived in Phu Bai via Army UH-1 just in time to greet Chuck House and Joe Weiss when they were rescued after being shot down and spending a night in the Valley. No pictures then, either.
