The Gathering 2009
To All Red Lions of the Vietnam Era,
Hank Amparan, Mike "Tripper" Tripp, and myself "Pops" would like to invite all to attend the 2009 Gathering at Pensacola Beach, September 17, 18, 19.
Our advisors are on standby to help if needed.
The Gathering in 2007 was quite a learning experience as neither of us had done so prior to doing it. With Tripper's help, we feel we can do a much better job this next September. We had an outstanding turnout and hope to exceed that number in 2009.
Many of you may have recently received an email from a Steering Committee that most of us didn't even know existed. They announced they would like to join up with HMR, HML, and HMH for the next reunion to be held possibly in Hawaii, Seattle or Chicago. These veterans have a right to go where they choose and join up with other squadrons.
We choose to gather at Pensacola Beach with the veterans of HMM-363 that we served with in Vietnam, continue the comaraderie we knew in Vietnam and at the 2007 Gathering.
Those of you who joined us last year enjoyed the food, the drink, but most of all, the comaraderie and good times we had with those in which we served. Hank, Tripper and I certainly hope you join us once more. A lot of us are getting a little too old to make long travels and I also know that the economy this year is not good. Any place that is selected will be extremely hard on some people's budgets and we think that we could do the right thing at Pensacola Beach. Remember, The Gathering will only be as good as those who attend and that's what it's all about.
At this time, we have approximately 60 veterans of the Lucky Red Lion squadron signed up. Please let Hank or I know if you will be attending ASAP and how many will be in your party. As last year, the 2009 Gathering will operate on donations only. If you cannot afford to give, we still want to see you. If you need help, call us and let us know. Donations will be asked for after the first of the year and a list of attendees will come out at a later date.

The Gathering 2009
The second bi-annual Gathering of the Lucky Red Lions, veterans of HMM-363 Vietnam Era, 65/69, has been set for the 18th, and 19th of September 2009 at Pensacola Beach, Pensacola, Florida.
The Gathering will be held at the same hotel on the beach we were at in 2007. It has been renamed the Days Inn. You may make your reservations at any time as of today through September 17, 2009. Rates will be the same as before, standard room: $85.00 per day, a room with a view: $115.00 per day. You may contact them at (850) 934-3300. Make sure you let them know you are with The Lucky Red Lions HMM-363 for the discounted price.
What a tremendous turnout we had in 2007. It was so great seeing all the MARINES we had served with that showed up and joined in celebrating our past as Warriors of the Air.
Were we all really that brave or just young and dumb? Ha Ha In reality, you are the bravest, most courageous men I have ever had the opportunity to know. But, remember one thing, if your sea stories get too far out-of-hand or too self-serving, once again, we will make you sit with the ladies.
We are currently checking into the possibility of having a BBQ on the beach this year, but nothing is firm at this time. Liquid refreshments will be available same as before.
The economy has created financial difficulties for some, but we hope you will plan to be with us if possible. Depending upon what donations we receive, we will do our best to assist anyone needing it.
Note!! A custom-made wooden UH-34 (DAWGGGGG) will be raffled off at the Gathering.

Gentlemen, please submit as soon as you are able, along with your spouse or guest so we may get name tags made out for everyone this year.

We now have a total of 108 Red Lions and Lionettes signed up to attend. If you plan on joining us, please quit procrastinating and let us know ASAP and PLEASE get your donations into us so we can do our planning. Include in your notice of attending, your spouse’s name so that we may make name tags for all. We are under six (6) months. Don’t let yourself down by not attending. That old squadron friend that you want to see one more time may not be here in a couple of years. As you know, in the past few years, we have lost several of our old friends. God Bless them all.
We hope to have a pork and chicken BBQ, southern style (man, that stuff is good). One of you Lucky Red Lions will leave The Gathering with a custom made, wooden model of a UH-34 DAWGGGG in squadron attire.

We now have a total of 131 Red Lions, Lionettes and guests signed up to attend. Time is running out to get signed up and send your donations in. Gentlemen, we have no set fee to attend, all activities, tent, food, drinks, etc. are planned with the funds we HAVE IN HAND. So we need your donations prior to the event, please remit ASAP, as we would like to finalize our preparations (We just want you to have fun). This is a kickback, relaxed, no frills Gathering. No fancy dress required, beach wear, shorts, T-shirts, polo shirts, but remember if you are over 25, no thongs, Speedos or nudity.
This year, at the Wall, we are hoping to do a reading of names in remembrance of our fallen brothers we lost in country. Also of those who have flown their last mission since then. We are placing this very important part of our Gathering in the hands of our friends Garret Hatcher and Dick Haley.
The squadron meal will be held between 1700 – 1800 hours on Saturday evening.
One of you Lucky Red Lions will leave The Gathering with a custom made, wooden model of a UH-34 DAWGGGG in squadron attire.
