To all,
Just received this email from Fat Al. 'Uncle Frank' Gulledge suffered a heart attack and passed away yesterday. We have lost an outstanding humanitarian and one of our most dedicated and endearing members of our Fox family. This is truly a sad day. More info when available. Chic
Maj. Frank Gulledge
It is with deepest sorrow that we share the news that Frank "Uncle Frank" Gulledge passed away on Tuesday, May 27th. It is a great loss to the Purple Foxes, the Foxy Ladies and the Marine Corps.
"Uncle Frank" was the creator and webmaster of the Vietnam Purple Fox website, but that is an understatement. He spent literally thousands of hours as our historian, making sure the stories of our unit would never be forgotten by generations to come.
In addition to his work with the Vietnam Purple Foxes, he was an avid supporter of the active-duty Foxes during their three tours in Iraq; the Warriors of Hill 881S; and the Foxy Ladies.
Details on the funeral arrangements and services will be released next week.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Many of you also know his wife, "Aunt Gail" Gulledge - one of the founding Foxy Ladies. Understandably, this is very heartbreaking for her, and we want to inform you that she is in the hospital herself. However, she is scheduled to be released late this weekend. We know that many of you will want to call and send flowers, but please hold off on doing so until we get more details. She has been told that we are all thinking of her and will be there for her whenever she needs us.
We will never forget you, "Uncle Frank"!
Semper Fi,
The Purple Foxes and Foxy Ladies
God Bless "uncle Frank"
Sharon and I cannot believe that "Uncle Frank", Web master for the Warriors of Hill 881S is gone. We cherish the fact that we were able to meet and greet him and his wife, who we now pray for in her own battle for renewed health. His work, on behalf of Capt. Dabney, brought all the Hill 881S Warriors closer to the PAPASMOKE chopper crews with whose heroic support, none of us would have survived our ordeal. He will always remain in our hearts, he was the backbone of the website that allowed all of us to come together once again as 'Brothers in Arms".
Lord bless our "Uncle Frank" and bring him into your Mighty Kingdom. Place a hedge of protection around his wife and bring her back to health. Frank told me often that she was as much of the reason for the happiness in his life and the success of our web site.
Eternal Father, grant, we pray
To all Marines, both night and day,
The courage, honor, strength, and skill
Their land to serve, thy law fulfill;
Be thou the shield forevermore
From every peril to the Corps.
Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
Through the great spaces in the sky,
Be with them always in the air,
In dark'ning storms or sunlight fair.
O, Hear us when we lift our prayer,
For those in peril in the air.
And when at length Frank's course is run,
His work for home and country done,
Hear from heaven our Marine cry,
And grant him eternal life on high!
