Hey Guys,
Im trying to find out what unit this UH-1E I just purchased was with. Im looking for anyone who might have pics or info on it. Looking for Vietnam tours, its nose art, etc.. Im restoring it to orginal 1965 specs. The only thing i can say that is different about this ship is. The seats are Blue. Might have been changed at one time. Also only one windshield wiper(piolt) I traced its history, new delivered 6/1965 to a Helo base in Florida (New river Marine Corps Air station). From there, lost the history, Until used as a trainer starting in 1976 at Pensacola till 1983 sent to moth balls in MASDC..Picked up by USDA in 2000 to 2005..
Looking for the units it was with from 1965 to 1976..
Im contacting (MCAS) to see if anyone still has the records of the unit it was with..
They only made 200 'E"' models, Im told it likely it was in Vietnam..Told All 'E' models went to Nam. The larger 'H' birds more made, and used as trainers.
Attached are pics of what it would have looked like in 1965, Dark Olive Drab Gloss!, Other is same but weatherd...Im useing the Dark one as my example to use as a template for myne.
Thanks for the info..

New River
Is in North Carolina, Squadron was VMO-1. I was there in 66-67. The only thing that looks odd is the pitot tube being above the windscreen. While at New River i remember them just above chin bubble, perfect position for the grunts to break off while on ship. I'll check my photo's.
New River Marine Corps Air Station is in Jacksonville, NC not Florida.
HT-8 in Pensacola was using the TH-57A after phasing out the TH13M
for primary instruction and the UH-1D for advanced instruction until they receievrd the TH-1L. Where was the UH-1E assigned to in Pensacola?
Tom Knowles
Blue seats
The blue seats are painted, the original color was olive drab. They are the armor seats that came out in 1966 and it has a 540 rotor head; that is why the pitot tube is on the roof. I have a bunch of photo's for you if you PM
me at edkyoko@cox.net

Check of my log book shows that I flew that aircraft # 151858 on the following dates: Sept. 19,1969, Oct. 8, 1969, Nov. 4 and Nov 6, 1969. At that time I was with HML-267 at Camp Pendleton.
I did not fly that aircraft in Vietnam, or after I came back and flew UH-1E's with VMO-1 at New River.
My guess is that maybe that was a Huey that never went overseas. We know one thing for a fact from Sept. through Nov. 1969 that aircraft was assigned to HML-267. There are enough of us old aviators who kept our log books so I'm sure we can fill in the history of that aircraft.
151858: to US Forest Service at Tallahassee FLorida as N121FC. w/o
Thanks guys,
I Understand the N.C. for new river, confused it with new river in Fl. Looks like this a/c dident go to Nam..Thanks for all the help, looks like we will be closing the gap in the history..I will get back with the Pensacola info tomorrow. Will be looking for any pictures of it to restore it correctly. Pm sent..ealex..thanks! Now we need to cover some of the other years..
I will put all the info together for a scrap book that will travel with the Helo..Can I get a photo of you Allyn and the dates you flew her?..
Would like to collect photos of all her pilots..Thanks again..
Kevin.. in Maryland..
ps, Guess this bird had no nose art..Maybe i should put the mascot of HML-267 at Camp Pendleton on her..?..anyone got any suggestions?.
Will wait for a picture from 1966-1976 of it..
From the pics it looks like it served with HML-267 and HML-776 (Reserves).
The 2 photos are not the one i own, Just examples..The pics of the "FIRE" on the side and interior shots is it..
Sorry for the confusion..
Kevin..
HML-267 had Ace of Spades painted on nose and aft pylon. The modex for HML-267 was UV which was also on aft pylon. On the Ace of Spades was also painted the squadron aircraft number ex: 7, 9, 12 or whatever number it was assigned by the squadron.
151867
Interesting, I took 151867 on Carib 4-66. It was a 204 rotor head, complete with those leaking hubs, dash 11 engine and small fuel cell. If production was sequential to s/n, a 540 preceeded a 204 by 9 units.
UH-1E 151858 was accepted on charge at Fort Worth on the 1st of June 1965
Taken on charge by VMO-1 at New River, 9th of June 1965.
Taken on charge by VMO-5, Camp Pendleton, 16th Feb 1967.
Redesignated HML-267, Camp Pendleton, 15th March 1968.
To VMO-6, Futenma 8 November 1970.
To HML-267 Camp Pendleton 22 April 1971. Coded “UV-10”
Into Storage at Davis Monthan, 30 April 1976. TT 3583 hours.
To Corpus Christi Army Depot, 19 August 1980.
To HT-18, Whiting Field, 22 December 1980.
To COMTRAWING, Pensacola, 10th January 1982. Coded “E-189”
Into storage at Davis Monthan, 24th August 1983.
Struck off charge, 25th August 1983, Total time 4390 hours.
Sold to Western International Aviation, Tucson, June 1986
WOW,
Info overload! What does all this mean? Listed is the info i have on her..
Maybe now I can put the puzzle together as to where she spent her life..
Thanks many times over..
Kevin..
What i dont under stand is the sale to the aviation department then to the USDA?.I was told by the pilot that he went to Monthan to pick it up for the USDA. Hmmm...
The manufacturing complete date is 06/18/1965 and the delivery date to the U.S. Marine Corps is shown as 06/07/1965 (in another spot I found the delivery date to be 06/23/1965). None-the-less it reported for duty to New River, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) ( http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/new-river.htm ). Then, according to our records, on 08/05/1987 ownership passed to the USDA Forest Service. Additionally, and you may be aware of this, on 05/20/1997 minor damage was discovered,
“ON PREFLIGHT, THE PILOT FOUND THE STAB BAR BOLTS TO BE EITHER MISSING, LOOSE, OR BROKEN. THE M/R TRUNNION WAS ALSO FOUND CRACKED. PARTS SENT TO BELL'S LAB, ALL FAILURES WERE IN REVERSE BENDING, I.E. LOOSE, NO MATERIAL FLAW”
The other info block reads, “A/C BELONGS TO THE US FOREST SERVICE ON LOAN TO FLORIDA. THE ENTIRE STAB BAR ASSEMBLY APPEARED TO BE LOOSE AND WORKING.” This information was recorded on 05/21/1997.
Not much here for your but hopefully in some small way this will help you round out your history search.
BTW, your narrative mentions that the acft is a static display helo. Is it still in flyable condition? One last question, do you have the total flight time on the aircraft so that I may update our records? The last flight hour update I have is 5630 hrs recorded on 02/09/1994.
It has 6200 hrs TT..
151858 (c/n 6052) to MASDC as 7H0029 Apr 30, 1976, returned to service. Back to MASDC as 7H0144
Aug 24, 1983. To civil registry as N121FC. Listed as written off and scrapped.
uh-1e early production
First 34 UH-1E's were actually Army UH-1B's with the -11 engine. So, they would have had the 204 rotor. Probably added a rotor brake so we could take them onboard ship. See the UH-1 Wiki
NARF may have reconfigured this bird with a 504 rotor later.
Joe Baugher has a block of 33 BuNo's as the first UH-1E's. The second block of numbers begins with BuNo 151840.
Maybe, the Navy threw the numbers in a hat and assigned them randomly.
As I recall, when I was ferrying -1L's to Ellyson from G96. The only difference between a -1L and a -1K was the paint and they were lined up randomly on the flight line waiting for someone to ferry them.

Hey guys,
many thanks for helping me uncover the history of my Huey.
These great Birds are dropping like our vets, they are being scraped by the 'man' to protect us from our selfs.! I consider it an honor to be able to care for this relic of our history. As im sure as I get older I will pass it on to another caretaker. I will update this thread with pictures as i continue to restore it..Plan on painting it tomorrow. Pics will follow soon after..
Thanks again for all the time and research you guys have given me.
If anyone is visting D.C. Im 30 mins away. Stop by!.
Kevin...301.922.2009 cell anytime.
PS, IF anyone has the operators manual for a 'echo' model, I would be glade to pay for it or borrow it to photocopy the pages.
Hey Guys,
Some updated pics..as progress continues...
Kevin..
Good job Bro!
Made it to Aberdeen Maryland for the Blue & Grey Show. Dispointed they dident have a aviation class for me! Maybe next year. The Helo was a Hit, always a crowd around her. Had to stop kids from bounceing the blades up and down by pulling on the tie downs. When i asked the parents to stop them, they replied that they pay taxes...I told them its now private property, and i can send them a bill with a note from my lawer if they like. They yelled at them, and walked away..Owell..Otherwise great 3 days.
I even got the 16 ammo cans and holder for a gun ship and also the end seats for the gunner. Also got a strap that goes around the gunners chest and clips to the bulkhead..Thought I would never see that stuff at a show!.
Now if i can find the Flex site I would be overjoyed!.
More pics will follow later..THanks again for all the help!.
Kevin in MAryland..
ps, maybe see you guys at the shows comming up..
Woo Hoo!
Looks great!!!
Nice bird! OooRaah!

When I was with 267 in 74 the C/O decided to stray from the typical uniformity of the Corps and had us paint the tails of all the Hueys in the squadron bright red from the stab wings aft to the top of the tail. We had the ace of spades with the UV call sign on them. We went on deployment to Fallon NV and on the way we flew over China Lake where some grunt general looked up and didn't like what he saw. By the time we landed in Fallon the order was waiting for us to "paint them BACK!!!" I have pics in my scrapbook of them and will bring it to Reno if anyone is interested...
