Good Afternoon Gents,
I hope you all had a great Christmas! I'm a current HMM-268 Bubba and I have a question concerning an old patch. I'm wondering what each element represents so we can get it approved for wear on our flight suits. It's quite different from our current Dragon patch so it's raised some questions with the command. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Red Dragon Patch
Trixxy, not sure if this had anything to do with it, but HMM-265 has always been 'the Dragons', and it goes back way before 64. That would make a lot of Dragons out there. There may be others as well. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.
Re: Red Dragon Patch Info
Trixxy, I don't have the "official" details on the design, so this is just an educated guess. The Red Cross represents the medevac mission, the sword is for the combat mission and the lightning bolt stands for the command and control mission. I've heard that the squadron nickname was "Wolverines". MALS-29 currently uses the Wolverine on their patch. I think there are some former HML-268 Marines here that have better info.
You should contact the Naval Aviation History Section in Washington, DC. Sometimes their files have information on the approved squadron insignia.

Re: Red Dragon Patch Info
I have the old HML-268 patches in stock. Some of the Marines that flew with me in Vietnam in 1970 got sent to HML-268 when they formed up at New River in 1972.
Re: Red Dragon Patch Info
Allyn, guess thats a good way to get new aircraft, and equipment. Shut it down for 2 years, then re-activate it. I bet it cost them more to do that than it would have cost by keeping them active. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.
Re: Red Dragon Patch Info
Thanks for your help! Any more info anyone has concerning HML 268 would be greatly appreciated. I'll push this up the chain and see if we can represent our forbearers by donning the old HML 268 patch. Thanks, Trix out.
Re: Red Dragon Patch Info
Trixxy, I have 52 HML-268 patches in stock at this time. I can get more in about 3 weeks. My supplier can have velcro sewn on the back at the factory. If you get the OK and want to use me as your supplier contact me at: MarinePatches@aol.com or call me: 636-441-5623
