I am a cousin of Navy Hospitalman Mark V. Dennis who was involved in OPERATIONS HASTINGS on July 15, 1966. Mark was assigned as a medic to a platoon of Marines and went into "Helicopter Valley". Mark's ship, CH46A # EP-171, was shot down on approach to LZ Crow.
Mark's remains were returned to the family and buried in Ohio.
However, in 1971 my family exhumed the remains for testing. We then discovered that someone else's body, likely that of a NVA soldier, was returned to us. We never learned Mark's true fate. We assume he may have been taken POW because some at the battle testified to seeing a few men jump from the helicopter.
The reason I am posting is because I found a sound file on the
Internet that I think might be radio transmissions from OPERATION HASTINGS. A website that I lost track of linked me to the sound file and described the sound file as "Helicopter Valley".
The sound file can be found at: http://www.manchu.org/sounds/
Please reference the sound file labeled "Gun Ship".
I am making a video for my family that honors Mark, and I am
thinking of including the sound file, but I want to make sure it is
really from the battle Mark was part of.
Would anyone in your organization be able to identify the sound
file? Accordingly, would anyone know of any sound files at all from HASTINGS?
Thanks in advance.
