What are they going to do without all that. Sure make their seabags lighter and what will they put out for their "junk on the bunk"?

No Brasso ?

Hell ,I still keep brasso around the house, never use it, but it reminds me of boot camp. Besides, what are the grunts going to drink out in the bush? S/F ED

Hey now,
We still use brasso, just not all the time.
Liquid starch, that is on the way out, but I still use it on most of my uniforms.
The new Combat camies, no starch no Iron.
The black boot polish is on the way out too, look at the new boots, not smooth black leather anymore, now it is ruff brown.

I guess it really isn't the uniform that makes the Marine, it is the person.

Rough Brown - Yea, I remember them. Quantico, summer of 1961.

We had to turn the rough brown into smooth black.

Long Gone

How many old salts remember the wool Battle Jacket, also known as an Eisenhower Blouse? These dress jackets were still being issued in boot camp during the summer 1963.

Wool

Sure remember that & the wool green uniform & the wool overcoat that seemed to weigh toxon kilos!! These items were back to 1942 with the high top dress shoes & Sam Browning belt with heavy brass buckle that came in handy when you were out numbered. The Eisenhower jacket came much later. Would like to get one if they were available!! SF PM;)

WOOLS

I went to boot in 66 and I still got issued the wool greens and the wool overcoat, talking about hot and scratchy. Luckily for the rest of my hitch I mostly wore my flight suits.

Lister Bags

During WWII a plastic bag with spigots all around it. (remind you of a cows Bag & tits) was used in the camp areas for water & filling canteens. Had horrible strong taste of plastic enhanced with Clorine!!! Later years the water buffalo was probably the replacement. SF PM

Wool Coat

Although probably needed in Korea, the wool coat was awfully heavy and smelled awful when ever it got even a little wet! My wool coat ended it's tour right after ITR in mid-1966. Left it home in my closet!
