Does anybody know where I might find film footage of an H-34 doing a high hover, over the jungle, hoist rescue?

While I was flying for Air America in Laos I rescued a Raven through triple canopy jungle; my daughter is trying to make a documentary of the rescue.

what is fun is that I rescued this fellow 1/31/1972; I met him 1/15/2005. we shared a bottle of scotch to celebrate life.

thanks

hoist rescue film

good luck on that one. from my experience, the only time we used the hoist was the last option. hanging there for the world to see while letting the hoist down, waiting for the injured to be strapped in, and then hoisting them back up thru the trees usually took somewhere close to a year. plenty of time for charley to get a bead on you. due to circumstance, no one stood around with a movie carmera.

In the movie "Bat 21" there was a good hoist scene in Vietnam... Anybody remember seeing that in the movie? Good one.

Hoist ops

If we 'd have ever had to "let" down the hoist while we were hovering, we'd sure get an a** chewing! We regularly let out a length of cable estimated to be the approx. height of the trees, we were to hover over. That way, all we had to do was drop it out and then reel it in! Saved a ton of time hovering over those trees you couldn't see through!

I did not expect anyone to be filmed while in a hover in a hot, high-hover hoist rescue. I am looking for training film, or Sikorsky promotional, or something like that. I did however hover 15 minutes over the jungle in Laos rescuing a Raven, undere threat of enemy fire, but was lucky enough to get out before the enemy got close enough to hose us down.

my bad. i read into your request that you were looking for film of a hoist rescue in the jungle. cbs did an excellent report on our sar team including the repelling of the team and the hoist extraction of a "wounded" man. but it ws done just off the danang airfield. seen films of rescues at millington but those films have probably been destroyed by now.
