I was in HMMT-301 and HMHT-301 in Santa Ana before going to VN and was stationed there again when I returned. There was a small number of men that stayed there, in 301 the whole time. Seems to me they should be able to join this organization. To date I haven't heard mention of this squadron very often and it is and was a very important squadron. What do you guys think?

Re: HMHT-301

Was HMHT-301 in LTA at in Jan of 1970? After my extension tour ended in Dec 1969, I was sent to Santa Ana and joined a 53 squadron. We used the far hangar at the south end of the base. But I thought the squadron was 46? and not HMHT-301. After a few months the squadron rotated to Nam and the short timers got distributed to other squadrons--El Toro H&MS outfit in my case.

I used to think the squadron was 462 but the timing doesn't seem right according to the squadron history.

I remember flying as a crewman with the 53's picking up large concrete slabs from Mile Square. Crew Chief was Byron L. Adams, who later on was the best man at our wedding.

Any insight as to the squadron numbers at LTA would be appreciated.

Re: HMHT-301

HMHT-301 was in the far hanger in late 1969 when I left for 463. At that time the sqd was all 53's.

Re: HMHT-301

The other CH-46 squadron was HMM-163. Don't think they went back to Nam though. I was in it until 3/70 when I was RAD.
