Men, this post is in archives now, but want to bring it back. My Favorite Vietnam movie, and Falcon361's as well, was 'The Seige of Fire Base Gloria'. It shows what a squad of Marines can do when the fan starts stinking. There are other good ones, but given the chance, I recomend 'Fire Base Gloria',any day. Didn't have Marine Birds, but has some good Army Huey action. Semper Fi, Ready-App.

Hey Ace, I thought the first hour(up to the scene in the head) was dead on for boot camp. R Lee Ermy been there-done that! Of course those nice barracks were a little hard to believe for us quonset hut guys. Oh yeah I guess I better say Full Metal Jacket somewhere here.

Marine Movies

How about Flying Leathernecks? John Wayne was an Ace F6F driver in the South Pacific. Can't forget Baa Baa Black Sheep, which was the pilot for the TV show starring Robert Conrad as Ace F4U driver and squadron commander of VMF-214, Pappy Boyington!

Mind is Battle cry, but to be honest I liked all of them even Clint Eastwoods . My favorite war movie is about the Navy and the turning point of the war "Midway" , my favorite Army movie is Patton, might as well give the Army Air Corp one too it was 12"o Clock high, and the under sea navy was Run Silent Run Deep.

I'm with Walt for sure, but the one with the Gunny Ermey,'The Seige of Fire Base Gloria' is a good one too. Most people ignore it, but it is a good one. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

Just watched Siege of Fire Base Gloria.....good action.....poor story line. I didn't like a couple parts of it when Eremy kills his corporal at the end before he gets medi-vac and another scene where he tells his men holding the head of a dead marine how ashamed he was of the marines death. Bottom line...it s**ked.

The Seige of Fire Base Gloria

Charlie, we have our own likes and dis-likes. But, I liked it. Ermey and Nardo, had a deal many could have made while over there. Ermey said,'The deal was for me Man'. He did not want to come home, and not walk again, so he had Ermey waste him. I didn't like it either, but it was in the story. As for Ermey holding the Marines head, and saying what he said, he was putting the facts to the men. Mainly the Army men. If they had been alert, it wouldn't have happened. That was shock treatment I would say. I would say since the base CO was on dope, most all the Army was as well. I can see where he would try to get them in a fighting state. It could have been better, but to me wasn't a vaccume cleaner. There are several I will watch as re-runs. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

The D.I.

Joe it should be on again in about 6-7 months. Maybe a call to the USO at Jacksonville would let you know who to call to see when it will be on. You could use Bunnies numbers to get info to Jacksonville to find out. Someone could have it on CD, and burn a copy and send you one. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

In your list:
OR WHOMEVER LIST IT IS; THE TITLE OF THAT ONE FAMOUS WW-II USMC FLICK IS NOT THE 'SANDS OF IWO JIMA'. IT IS THE 'SHORES OF IWO JIMA'.

PROBABLY THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE IN USMC MOVIE TITLES THERE IS.

Doc, thats Great. Its Allan Holmes, the patch man that has the movies there. I don't seem to be that organized, as all the movies I taped have disintergrated. Had a way to put them on CD's, but it burned up, and need to get another VHS to CD when I can, but its always something with the renters. You can not find out about them until they get into the home, then its to late. They know that, but I've learned some legal things since, and no more druggies will live in my homes. I'll dis-mantle them befor that happens. Semper Fi, and Ready-APP.

There were 2 documentary films made during World War II: WITH THE MARINES AT TARAWA and TO THE SHORES OF IWO JIMA. They are both great actual combat films, and were in color shot by Marine film crews under fire. I have both.

There is a movie I've been looking for: A YANK IN VIETNAM. It was made in 1964. I saw it once at a local movie house in St. Louis in 1964. The leading role was played by Marshall Thompson. It was about a Marine UH-34 pilot that works with local Sothh Vietnamese. It was made during the time when there were Marine Helo Squadrons flying in 'nam before the infantry landed (March 1965) I've looked it up in the Movie Guide and it says it was retitled: YEAR OF THE TIGER. So far no luck finding a copy.

Flying Leathernecks has always been a favorite movie of mine. Also any move that John Wayne portrays a Marine is a good choice too.

I am a Beirut Vet that served with HMM-263 on board the USS Inchon LPH-12.

In all the military movies that John Wayne had a part in he only played a Marine in three Movies: WITHOUT RESERVATIONS, SANDS OF IWO JIMA, and FLYING LEATHERNECKS. In both Without Reservations and Flying Leathernecks he played the part of a Marine Aviator.

Allyn, I was able to see both of them, but they haven't been on anymore. That figures. Be nice if they found them. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.
