I have two DD-214's one from my release from active duty in 1988.The other one is for release from active duty after Desert Storm in June of 1991, I was in the Marine Corps Reserves at the time. I left the Reserves in 1995 (no DD-214 was issued, I was told they did not give Reservist's DD-214's). My Desert Storm DD-214 does not list my Air Medal, I was awarded mine in August of 91. My Micro Fich record has all of my awards listed including the Air Medal. The DMV wants proof of the Air Medal award, I gave them certfied copies of the citation and certificate, (not good enough for them) I even brought the Micro Fich record to the office, but they have no fich reader.(they want the DD-214) Remember this is the DMV.
My question is how do you obtain an updated copy of the DD-214 or record to show that the Air Medal was awarded to me? Incidently this is for an Air Medal License plate for the state of Mississippi. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DD 214 info
Look for the National Records center on the web. Fill out the online form and submit. The records activity will send you a form that is an official replacement for non issued 214's. give this to the state. i have had to do this three times. worked every time.
Try contacting your State Representative or Senator who is Chairman of your States Veterans Affairs Committee. I have worked with mine and they can sometimes be help with issues such as yours.

It's official, DD-214's are NOW Online. Please pass onto other vets.
The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following
website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214's online:
This may be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his DD-214 for employment purposes. NPRC is working to make it easier for veterans with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents from their military files. Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new on-line military personnel records system to request documents. Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard Form 180, which can be downloaded from the on-line web site. Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records centers mailroom and processing time.
