Hello I'm not sure if your a Marine or not, but if you are, maybe you can help me with my question, i was wondering that when i graduate; i plan on joining the Marine Corps, but I'm not American, I'm Canadian, so would i still be able to enlist in the USMC no problem? Some Air Force guys told me that it'll be no problem because i am a Canadian citizen & not like..foreign i guess, but i want an answer from an actual Marine, please email me back.

Thank you

I know that during Vietnam there were more Canadians that came south to join up than there were U.S. Citizens that went north to avoid serving. We got the better end of that deal. In my Basic School Class Lt. Ralph Sink was from Canada. He enlisted came back from 'nam as a Sgt. and went to OCS. Lost track of him after Basic School since he had not been back a year they kept him at Quantico to play football. So unless they have changed the rules come on down. We are always looking for a few good men, and being born here is not a requirement.

Canadians In The Marine Corps

At Parris Island in 1964,our senior D.I. was a Brit.He had formerly served several yrs. in the British Royal Marines before emigrating to the U.S.
It was my understanding from him that non-nationals could enlist in our armed forces & still retain their citizenship to their native country.
Obligations to our nation & requirements were the same as any U.S. citizen at that time.
The only exception being that they were not committed to a term of enlistment & could resign from the military just as native Americans or married and/or expectant females were permitted.
I'm sure that this policy has been revised in view of the events of the past several yrs.
