I found this callsign in the VMO-6 After Action Reports from Jan-June 1968. It was a 46 squadron but I can't pin down which one. Anybody know who they are?

Some dates:

21 Jan 68
Cadaver 4-1 and 4-2 escorted 11 CH-46s on troop lift of Dixie Dinner 14 from YD138602 to LZ Eagle. 46s were Chatterbox 24-1,2,3 plus Welcome Tour 7-1,2,3,4,5,6. After 2 lifts Chatterbox had to return to base with Welcome Tour completing the lift.

18 April 68
Welcome Tour 1-1 inserted recon team Corporal Pete, which immediately came under fire and had to extracted. Seaworthy 4-1 flew escort and called in fixed wing (Lovebug 310) for suppressive fire.

8 May
Seaworth 4-20 escorted Welcome Tour 5-1,2; Chatterbox 22-1,2,3; Swift 10-1,2,3,4 for a troop lift to Hill 881N. Later that day Welcome Tour 1-5 and 1-6 did emerg. extract of recon team Meeting House.

Yessir!

If my (faulty) memory hasn't completely failed me, We (165 ) relieved 262 aboard the "Happy Valley" (Valley Forge, LPH-8 sometme in Jan' 68)

Thanks. I knew Chatterbox was 262 and Swift was 364 but couldn't match Welcome Tour until now.

Welcome Tour?

Sully,
Your memory has been better than mine more than once, even though I tend to remember such things as call signs, etc. However, I have NO recollection of "Welcome Tour". I remember "Spartan Luck" as HMM-165 most of 1968 and of course the requisite Yankee Whiskey we'd use on test hops and some mail runs, etc. I was on check crew on the "Happy Valley" and didn't fly as much as I wanted. How long do you recall we used that??

If I'm not mistaken, "welcome tour" was the call sign assigned to 164 when we went aboard the Valley Forge in Jan/Feb 1968.

Hmm-164

Bill that sounds right, but HMM-165 was on the Valley Forge in Jan/Feb 1968 without question. You must have relieved us in March.....

The 262 Poor Divels left the Valley in Jan of 68 when the rest of the squadron returned from Okinawa after finishing the Mod .SF

Hmm-262

As usual, Walt is correct. (never argue Marine history with Walt!) That's when my buddy, 1/Lt (then) Doug Morrison reported aboard the HMM-262 Poor Devils, as they were off loading to Quang Tri. The early days of the Super Gaggle were about to begin, thanks to Major (then) Dave Althoff.
HMM-165 came back off of the Valley Forge in March or so and returned to Phu Bai.

"Welcome Tour" time frame

Now you've done it, Joe....(Made me think!). I remember it from about the time we went aboard the Valley Forge. I got reamed by whoever answered my UHF radio check for using "Wonder Tour"...(I 'm STILL 'wondering ' what I was doing myself!) LOL! Thanks for the compliment.
