I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am looking for information on a uh-1c carrying a black ace of spades with a 2 on it and the designation UV inside a spade on the tail. I am putting together a model of this aircraft and some of the decals do not seem accurate. This particular helo has an M-5 40 mm grenade launcher on the nose. If anyone has any info, particularily a photo, please contact me at thomlynn1@yahoo.com. Thank you for your help and especially for your service to our county. Semper Fi!
That model kit can be made as a UH-1C (Army), or a UH-1E (Marine Corps). The UV means it is a HML-267 aircraft based at Camp Pendleton, CA. The Marine UH-1E's did not have the 40mm in the nose, so if you want it as a Marine aircraft leave the 40mm off. I served in HML-267 after I got out of flight school and before I went to 'nam June-Nov. 1969. In the photo archieve section of the web site check photo #470, and you'll some of the Marines that served in 267 at that time. The #2 is just the number assigned by the squadron. I think during the time I was in the squadron we had 12 to 14 UH-1E's and about half a dozen OV-10's.

IIRC decals are correct, the kit is inaccurate.

Allyn is right. I served with HML267 at the same time. UV and the black spade were on the tail and the nose.
