Gentlemen, Is this something that can be posted on the Notam Board...or in a future Popasmoke article?
Marines,
I have a bit of a dilemma and I require the help of a few good men. My name is Charles. Kotlowski (SKI). I am a retired SgtMaj. I work Part time at the USS Yorktown and I am a volunteer at the ship as well. A CH-34 has been removed from the flight deck (presently painted in Navy colors. It has been towed over to the Viet-Nam spport base exhibit to be placed with an Army and a Navy Huey. I have spoke with the folks at the museum and they have agreed to allow some of us to restore this old warbird as a 1960s era Marine 34. Now this is still in the planning stage, but the Museum will provide all materials to restore this bird. All I have to do is find enough folks to help restore her so she can take a place of honor at the Viet Nam site. Depending on the response I will like to organize some work parties over the next few months. I can arrange for billeting aboard the ships at the museum USS Yorktown, USS Laffey and USS Ingram. We are located at Charleston S.C. I spent over 30 years in The Marine Corps and I know between all you guys out there we can make this happen. I never flew in a 34 but I can assure I flew in enough of the other birds to know that this would be a worthwhile project for Marines to take on. I can be reached at 843-556-2434 home, or 843-298-3454 or shoot me an e-mail Go to the USS Yorktown Museum website and ther should be a picture of the 34. www.patriotspoint.org .This may be something that some of your regional guys may be interested in. WE may even have a plaque placed near the 34 to commmemorate like the Army and Navy Hueys have. I hope to hear from some or all of you soon.
