Need a super sleuth on searching downed a/c. One of our pilots asked me to help him track down a bird (CH-46) that went down in Feb 70. The incident was on the squadron & MAG reports, with no info, Was told no KIA's. BUNO was 154007. Can anyone help out?? Thanks
Better late than never...Dug around in the HELIS & Texas Tech sites this AM and found....
BuNo 154007 was transferred to HMM-262 26 July '69.and written off 12 Feb. '70. Command Chronology indicates the a/c went down while attempting a 1 wheel hover during a recon insertion
west of S/F camp near Thuong Duc, Quang Nam Province, RVN. ( Pretty rough terrain as I recall. ) Wind shear caught it, a/c went out of control, aft rotor met the hillside, bird rolled over 300 yds.
down the slope. All 5 crew members escaped with only minor injuries & a change of skivvy drawers. Wouldn't have wanted that ride !!!
