I don't show "EW" on our list of tail codes. Which squadron was that?

What does EW-2 stand for and is that an "E" or a "C" on the above aircraft. When we restore we want to get the codes right. Thanks

Ripper,
That would be the side # or call sign of the bird. Maintenance documents and logs refer to the bird by it's side # and also used as radio call sign. CHarlie Whiskey-2! See my signature, this was my bird for some of my time in RVN.

Joe; What SQ were you in in Vietnam? Did you fly this bird in Nam? Also, was their anything painted on the front clam shell doors? Thanks..Ripper
PS:T om "TF" Miller is one of our docents with me here. He was CO of HML-167. He flew in Nam 68-69.Do you know him??JR
Hmm-165
Ripper,
Sorry if my reply was confusing. I was a Mechanic-Gunner-Crew Chief with HMM-165 flying CH-46A's in RVN. I was there, in that unit, from October 1967 until late November 1968. I was refering to my signature, YW-11 (Yankee Whiskey in the phonetic alphabet). It was my first assigned Helicopter (photo attached)! I have not flown the UH-34 in question, nor do I know the C.O. of whom you speak. Again, sorry for any confusion.
yl-75
thinking back on the good ole days, you dared not leave your aircraft unattended while visiting another sqd. flight line. you would end up with a spray paint decal on your bird. such as a pineapple from the hawaii sqd that was there when i was. so i think that it seems that everyone that gets ahold of a '34 and asks for any information reports that it has YL-75 on it. did someone go around with a spray can and get every '34 they could find with a yl-75 stencil?
"Calling Cards"
When we were on the USS Valley Forge, LPH-8, the sailors liked to stencil "USS Valley Forge LPH-8" on th bottom of our birds. We found out and caught one of 'em....With this knowledge, we stenciled White Knights Head with HMM-165 EVERYWHERE!! Even on the Ships large numeral "8" on the superstructure! The Ship's company C.O said enough, and we had to cease and desist....Still we found USS Valley Forge stenciled on things from time to time, for several months!! It was on the INSIDE of our conex boxes when we unloaded at MMAF after the deployment!!LOL What an exercise! In good fun, though!:D
