Mike Clausen's old bird, "Blood, Sweat & Tears", has been retired from active service (in Iraq) and will have a new home in Charlotte, NC.
Notice to Museum members as follows:
"As many of you are aware, the Museum has recieved a rare opportunity
to recieve a very rare and historically significant CH-46. One of
the crew of this particular aircraft won the Congressional Medal of
Honor during the Vietnam war for his efforts to rescue a 20+ Marine
unit which had walked into a minefield. These effors under enemy
fire were very heroic.
Recently this aircraft was damaged in Iraq and is not economical to
repair. Given its historical signifiance, the Marines would like to
see it preserved.
After an inspection of the aircraft by Dean Demmery, Shawn Dorsch,
and Brent Vandervort about 2 months ago, the board decided to move
forward with the recovery.
Brent Vandervort has been especially generous with regard to these
efforts and on Wednesday March 30th Brent along with 3 of his
employees will go to Cherry Point to begin the recovery efforts.
Dean, Rick and Brian will go down a few days later, and Don Creason
will then arrive on Friday April 1st to load it up and drive it back
to Charlotte.
It should arrive on April the 2nd at the Museum."
