Like my USMC serial number, the BuNo of THIS gallant lady is forever etched in my brain housing group.

Her last mission was on January 19th, 1968 and culminated in an emergency extraction under heavy and intense fire of a Recon team set in as the first of many missions that morning. On successful return after successfully fulfilling her missions which should and coulda resulted in the loss of all everyone. and on her next attempt to go back our, She lost her APU. I fixed it and tried again and the Aft Transmission was shot. Kaput! I was reassigned to YT-1 a "D" while Doug Lanford, YT-1's Crewchief was given a Super "D". YT-6 was one of the original "A's" that came across the pond and into country on the Princeton.

I last saw her being lifted by a sky crane to the Valley Forge in March of '68 where she was finished off via cannibalization.

Where the airframe is today??? GOD and the MARINE CORPS only know...

the attached jpg was originaly submitted by Mr. Montoya. Note the plexiglass windows are still in the portholes...

Dear Sir,

I am neither God or USMC, but I can tell you that 151920 is still in existance. It was last noted in October of 2000, flying as a HH-46D, coded VR-75, with the navy squadron HC-11, at NAS North Island, San Diego.

Perhaps you could contact them at
http://www.navy.mil/homepages/hc-11
or phone them on 619-545-6408
to see if they still have 151920 on charge.

Hope you manage to meet up again.

SIDSKO RULES!!!!

WOW!!!

Wouldn't that be something. Thanks for the clue. I'll surely follow it up.

I for sure thought since she was an OG an "A" that she went by way of the Buffalo for sure...

I am in So. Cal. and hopefully she'll be available for a photo OP and a reunion of sorts..

OG is short for Original Girl.

Subject: Locating my old War Bird! BUNO 151920 possibly your VR-75???

I don't think John Wayne kept looking for Natale Wood this long in the Western "The Searchers."

It's back to... Chloe'..., Moey...? or as in Pink Floyd

"Is anybody out there???"

Thanks to SIDSKO for the assist. I did appreciate it...

Oh well! The Angels did beat the Giants.

Sid,

That's a "Roger".

Thanks. I really was on cloud nine for a short while.

It is much better than being on the "old" proverbial Boeing Vertol Cloud of Shiplap.

Say, we really have us a series going now... You do get baseball in N-gland don't you?

"old" during the days when Hover Aft was thought to be a speed brake.

I've sent a PM to Bro. Alan regarding Tom Gopp. He may have been his first mech or his gunner while Alan crewed YT-6. tom was KIA shortly after my assignment to that bird as Crew Chief.

Alan, there was something about an aligator pin such as IZOD logo that had a particular effect on Tom's affect with me... I think you use to wear that little pin which I found aboard YP-6 after you rotated back to LOTANG and LOTBREW.

Glossary of terms:

LOTANG - Land of the all night generator

LOTBREW- Land of the beautyful round eye'd Wimmin's... and Lostsa Brewski's.. and VERRRRRRRRRRY cold. Either, OR...

Sounds like maybe she's in the bone yard at Tuscon>> Maybe Slick can confirm that she was retired and not crashed?

looking for AirFrames???

I found a good site for finding all BuNos for All aircraft in the US inventory.

http://home.att.net/%7Ejbaugher/thirdseries19.html

I found my bird and it says it was "Struck off Charge". I have lost the ability to recall what that means exactly. I presume that means scrapped???
