I was with K/3/3 that day - we were set in at Dia Do when we heard the blast and it rocked the tank we had climbed up on to see what was happening - it was a truely amazing sight. There was even black& white photos of the blast from ground level, published in some Navy magazine we were given to read at Yokouska Naval Hospital, Japan ( I still have a copy of that pic somewhere )! -Submitted by: Simpson, Jack [tiebeam@adelphia.net] 2006-09-30

I was detaced to the perimeter from FLSU#1 and was assigned to the tower right outside Delta Med. About 0800 two of us came down and went to the Delta Med messhall for breakfast because they had fresh eggs and blueberry pancakes! I was just about to take the first bite when the first rounds came in. I never did get a bite of that breakfast. We were able to get back to the perimeter, but it was too hot with incoming and falling shrapnel to try to make it into the tower. We spent the better part of the day low crawling down the perimeter trying to assess our situation and help out some of the guys trapped in the bunkers. I was at the mouth of the Cua Viet River that day. We were getting hammered pretty hard too, but will never forget the collective awe when we saw the plume of smoke rising from Dong Ha, several miles up river. I was a FLSU radioman, so I had a lot of buddies at Dong Ha, including some at the ammo dump. Couldn't raise anybody on my PRC-25, so I feared the worst. The dump was hit again, 1415 hrs., 20JUNE68. I was with MCB-5 (12/67-7/6
 and our camp, Camp Barnes, was next to the dump, on the west. There were seven massive explosions, similiar to the one pictured. A and B Co. shops were demolished. On Sept. 3rd 1967 I was with the Navy CBs NMCB-11 at Dong Ha just off the Air Strip. Scared is not the right word for what I was. My head was buried deep in a fighting hole and I was darn glad not to have been caught above ground. White hot 155 rounds were falling everywhere. Heavy damage was done to our camp from the incoming and the concussions from the blast from the ASP. For those who don't know a Sea Bee by the name of Pratt got into a six by and made two trips into the ASP picking up the Marines who were caught in the blow up. Pratt was credited with saving many lives that day and he was later given the Bronze Star for his actions. A brave man. omg i WAS THERE ! I or WE were in Disbursing Just North of the Road from the air strip ! We were gietting hit by mortars , artillary, recoiless about every 3 hrs on or off ! We knew when to go to the bunkers and then they got Ammo dump , they always wanted the Mess tent or Air Strip ! Then they got Ammo Dump heard the explosion then small arms we thought we were being over run ! This is 1st time I've seen a picture of Ammo dump!
