  • CWO-4 Bill Darby (CH-46 Driver/HMM-165 "Buff City")

I am looking for contact information for CWO-4 Bill Darby, CH-46 pilot with HMM-165"Buff City." Bill and his crew helped rescue me and my Huey crew (VMO-6, "Klondike") in the late afternoon of January 10, 1967. We were shot down in a "hot zone" attempting to pick-up some wounded ROC Marines in an area southwest of Ky Ha near Quang Ngai. Does anyone know how to get in touch with him; or, does anyone else recall this incident? Thanks!

    Steve,
I can't find the 'gunner's' name listed on the '165 reunion roster & I don't recall him.,but then again, there was a big turnover in sqdrn. personnel in Dec. '66.
I'd suggest contacting either Jim Wissmar or Jim Sramek. 'Wizzy' is the locator for the reunion committee & Sramek was one of 165's '46 drivers during that time frame. Their email add.'s to follow:
    James Wissmar > wizz@neo.rr.com
    James Sramek > ku1963@gmail.com

Thanks.....FYI, Wayne Sutter clarified the following information for me, "Ron Dalbey of HMM-165. He was promoted to 2Lt by the time I joined the squadron in February 67. Jim Wismar keeps track of the 165 personnel."

      Semper Fi,

      Steve
