  • Walt Cahoon from Ben Cascio

I was so sorry to hear of Walt's passing. We will always remember & cherish Walt's memory. I fondly remember the hours we spent together working on the helicopters together, working on YL42 at Mirimar, & installing the engine into YN19 during the two weeks we spent in a field tent in LI together w/a dozen other Marines; & I remember how much I continued to learn from his vast experience.

I smile every time I tell the story about when he had to crawl under the a/c at the Mirimar air show, & didn't want to get his pants dirty, so he took them off & serviced the a/c in his boxer shorts in front of hundreds of on lookers. That was just before we had our picture taken w/the Charger Cheerleaders, so it wasn't all work & no fun. And he did have his pants on for the picture. I have a photo of both somewhere, which I will try to find & share w/you. We often kidded him about that for many years thereafter. He will always be remembered for his great smile, & as a warm, wonderful, giving friend - & a great Marine.

You can tell people to send their donations to "Marine Helicopter Squadron 361Veterans Association" PO Box 429, Cutchogue NY 11935. It will be used to erect a Memorial at the Marine Corps Museum Walk of Honor at Quantico VA & Walt's name will be inscribed on it.

Could you please send Walt;s Bio or obituary, & especially his final arrangements so we can get that info out to his squadron & Marine Brothers.
