    Jerry "Buttman" Butts - HMM-165
It's with a heavy heart that I have to report the loss of a great friend and a true Marine, Dr. Jerry Butts. Jerry passed away at his home in Ft. Collins, CO. on July 15th. He flew 46's in
Vietnam with HMM 165, and later transitioned to 53's in New River, N.C. After the Marine Corps, Jerry moved to Colorado where he met the love of his life, Margie, got his degree in veterinary medicine, raised three terrific kids (Jason, Lindsey and Kevin), and operated a successful veterinarian practice for 31 years. He was a tireless family man, friend and patriot. He was an avid outdoors man, passionate about hunting, fishing, dirt bikes, shooting and much more. His sense of humor knew no bounds and he only saw the bright side of life. We're lucky to have had someone in our lives who makes saying goodby so hard.

The family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude's Children Hospital, care of

      Re: Dr Jerry Butts/HMM-165

I am a former Marine, and good friend of Kevin Butts, son of the late Dr Jerry Butts who passed away last month in CO. I will be putting together a shadow box as a gift to the family to remember Jerry's service in the Corps, and I am trying to find as much information as I can about him(units served in, pictures, stories) to use in the shadow box.
Kevin has a few pictures of Jerry in uniform, but if possible I would love to find some that the family hasn't seen before. From the research I've done, I know that he served with HMM-165 during Vietnam. If there are any forum member's that served with Jerry I would really appreciate any information they can provide.

Buster..... I just read your email and I contacted my friend Don "Doc" Blanchard, and asked him if he knew Jerry. They both lived in Fort Collins for many years and their families are close. Doc was also a 46 pilot in HMM 165 and was in Nam a few a few years earlier than Jerry (66 - 67), so he may not have any photos of that time frame. However, Doc and Jerry later became good friends and he'd be happy to help you out in your attempts to put together something for the family. Doc should be in the Fort Collins phone book. He lives on Harbor Way. Get back to me if you can't find his phone number. Mike Sullivan (msulliv@sbcglobal.net)
