        Sgt. Charles Prentiss Maddocks III

        lafayette - Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 11:00 am at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette LA for Sgt. Charles Prentiss Maddocks III.

        Sgt. Maddocks, 69, reported to his final duty station; Marine Corps Barracks, Heavens Gate on Friday, February 12, 2016 from his home in Lafayette Louisiana. These orders follow his time spent in Da Nang, Vietnam with VMO-2 where he and the rest of his "Angry Two" crew flew 200 reconnaissance sorties through the Vietnam skies in support of ground forces. Sgt. Maddocks reports in full dress dawning a set of Combat Aircrew wings with 3 stars, a Purple Heart with one gold star, an Air Medal with 7 silver stars & 2 gold stars, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 silver star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, a President Unit Citation, a Navy Unit Commendation, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

        Upon completion of his Vietnam mission, he attended and graduated from USL with a BA and MA. He then went on to pursue a career in education and eventually became a high school administrator. He retired from the school system and changed his career path to law-enforcement. First as a private investigator then parole officer and finally retired in 2015 as one of Atlanta's most prestigious Polygraph Examiners.

        He leaves behind and will be sadly missed by his daughter, Sadie Jayne Maddocks; grandson, Cohen Charles Herpin; step daughter, Sydney Jeanne Dube' and her family; former wife and companion, Jennifer Maddocks; three sisters, Pauline "Merle" Maddocks and her husband Alan Whitten; Hazel "Tootsie" Robert and her husband Paul; Marsha "Mickey" Daigle and two brothers, Michael Reid Maddocks and Todd Pitre.

        Sgt. Maddocks was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Prentiss Maddocks Sr. and Hazel M. Guillotte.

        Sgt. Maddocks will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials in his honor may be made to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund www.semperfifund.org. Sgt. Maddocks would also like for every Veteran to always remember "Never let the truth interfere with a good war story!"

        Those who knew him, know that Heaven now has one hell of a Marine standing post!
