    Today was my Birthday

    There was Bridge to play

    A day to relax, reflect

My wishes didnít seem to be

It was a so so day

    Went to dinner

    My wife and me

    Food was good

    Atmosphere relaxed

    A couple tables over

    Five Marines and Two wives

    Celebrating,

    A Colonel Retiring

    Dressed in civvies

    Still plain to see

    They loved their leader

    And gave him gifts

    Tried to catch their eye

    Didnít want to interrupt

Instead I bought them a round

It was my gift to Him and Them

    He came to my table

    And said to me

As I started to get up

    ďSir, please donít get up,

    Shaking my hand. "thank you.Ē

    "You're welcome," ..."No, ...Thank you.Ē

    I felt good

    I felt better

    It didnít matter

    It was his day.
