  • 95th Birthday, Henry Wildfang

Today is the old Grey Eagles 95th Birthday. Although he is not a member here. Several of you flew with him & appreciate the 24,000 hours he flew for our Corp. That is probably more time in the air than some spent in the Corp !!! May he have many more Birthdays !!! Semper Fidelis Paul Moore

He's still getting over his "wounded wing" affair from his last reunion...just as quic and witty as ever, altho he likes to deny it.

Henry said he had a big response to his birthday which he really appreciated & enjoyed. We have had several discussions of our past in the Corp both of us back to early 1942. Each time we find places where our paths crossed. In my training back at Fortworth 1943/44 We were both flying training courses out of Meecham field . Than again in 1954 at El Toro MWSG 37 when he was a Msgt E 7 in R4Q s. It is a pleasure to be able to correspond with someone that understands what I have tried to record . Rather than speculate on their concepts. Semper Fidelis PM

Just had an awesome conversation with a young man while waiting in the front room of our heart doctor. We spoke of our time in the Corps at length. I ask where he was from and he told me he was local, so I ask if he knew a Henry Wildfang. He informed jme very quickly that was he. After all that then we got down to swapping lies. Paul he said to tell you "Hi".

Glad you got to talk to that grand old Marine !! I talk to him frequently about our travels in the Corp back to early 1942. Not any others left that I know of that covers those years in our voyage. Just recently lost the last of my Brothers that I served with in the Pacfic 1944/45. Have a photo of four of us stuck in the mud in our jeep Okinawa 1945. I am the lone survivor in that photo. Time catches up with all of us !!! ( Photo Cpl Wischmeyer seated, Cpl Lukowski left standing , Cpl Novobilski Standing & Myself SSgt Moore with the pole on the right. ) Novobilski just passed about two weeks ago. Semper Fidelis PM

No Henry never got into Helicopters. He said he would like to have but was afraid he would never get back into stiff Wings which was his love . He was in a B24 airiel photografic Sqd during WW2. Than flew transport type A/C during his career. Later part was the C130 . When I was at MARTD Dallas in NAP Training 1943/44. We both trained from Meecham field. His transition in flight training was with American Airlines. In those days we had War Training Services which was by some commercial Units. (I attached one of those certificates back in this subject ) Next time I was in the area with Henry was 1954 we were both in MWSG 37 at El Toro with R4Q transports; he was a Msgt E 7 than. Things were under CAA in those early days. Semper Fidelis PM
